The Testimony of Jesus Christ
The testimony of Jesus Christ is the spirit of prophecy. Prophecy is telling future events. The testimony of Jesus Christ is when someone tells another person that Jesus is coming to judge us according to our works: that when our works are good, Jesus blesses us, and when our works are evil, He chastens us. Very few of God’s children have the “testimony of Jesus Christ” because very few are willing to testify to someone about Jesus coming to judge us. Either we do not want to sound sanctimonious, or “holier than thou”, or we are afraid of losing their friendship if we have to talk to them about something they are doing wrong in their lives.
Either we are ashamed of Jesus’ coming, or
else we do not love our brethren enough to warn them of His judgments because
of their wrongdoing. God has given us
the responsibility of “watching over one another for good.” We are to help those who are weak. We are to warn those who walk contrary to
God’s word. Remember the words in
Ezekiel 3:17-19: “Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of
18:
When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not
warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life;
the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at
thine hand.
19:
Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his
wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou
hast delivered thy soul.”
It is a serious matter to see someone
doing something of a serious nature, which could result in severe punishment
from God, but we fail to give him or her warning! Failing to have the spirit of prophecy (the
testimony of Jesus Christ), testifying to someone about Jesus coming to judge
us, will result in sever punishment in our own lives.
What is another reason we do not warn
others about the sin in their lives? We
are sometimes afraid of what they will do to us or say about us. What happened to John the Baptist when he
warned Herod? What happened to Stephen
when he warned others? What happened to
all the apostles? They were killed because they had the testimony of Jesus Christ,
the spirit of prophecy.
May God help us to keep God’s commandments,
to try to live godly lives ourselves. Then, may we have enough love and concern for
others that we will always be willing to talk with them about sin in their
lives.
